8,855 suspects that were later absolved from criminal prosecution upon rehabilitating
grounds.
In 1997, Procuracy bodies submitted 27,150 presentations concerning violation of law,
which led to chastisement of 17,850 militia officers.
Over the same period, a number of criminal proceedings against internal affairs
officers resulted in conviction. This includes 466 persons for bribery and extortion; 853,
for exceeding authority; 505, for falsification and forgery; 117, for murder or attempted
murder; 208, for intentional personal injury (serious or less serious); 64, for rape; 201,
for theft; 84, for robbery; 88, for armed robbery, and 509, for various other crimes.
