The Society for the Defence of Imprisoned Businessmen and Economic Freedoms

 

Established in 1989 to help those prosecuted for engaging in free commercial activity.

The creating of the Group:

BL1.GIF (837 bytes)1989-90 - the work of the Group as the Public Center to Assist the Humanization of the Penitential System of the USSR (MCPR) by leadership of V. Abramkin

Purpose of the Group:

BL1.GIF (837 bytes)creating of the favorable public environment for businessmen and deliverance them from the rear of criminal repression;

BL1.GIF (837 bytes)humanization of the practice of courts with regard to businessmen

BL1.GIF (837 bytes)connection of Group’s activity with that of other similar organizations.

 

Our main actions are

BL1.GIF (837 bytes)defence of persons who were repressed because of their economical activity;

BL1.GIF (837 bytes)the legalization of economical activity which now is considered as a crime;

BL1.GIF (837 bytes)abrogation of the death penalty and decreasing of a period of imprisonment for economical crime;

BL1.GIF (837 bytes)creating of suggestions connected with changing in the legislation. It is necessary to decrease the number of reasons for arrests of businessmen;

BL1.GIF (837 bytes)rendering of free of charge juridical aid to persons persecuted by the Court because of their economical activity. We try to correspond with court and write compliance to prosecutors for further analyzing and revising of sentences;

BL1.GIF (837 bytes)forming of the public respect for independent businessmen, because it is a important part of a personal freedom;

BL1.GIF (837 bytes)popularization of the purpose of the Group with the help of mass media information and the Bulletin of the Group; reading of lectures.
