739 Correctional Colonies (IK) for adult inmates,
include 37 women Correctional Colonies (10 have Baby’s houses);
64 Educational Juvenile Colonies (VK), include 3 for girls;
184 Pre-Trial Detention Centers (SIZO) and 13 prisons.
On the 1th of January of 2002 there were 976000 inmates in
all types of Correctional Institutions.
Among them: 747000 — in Correctional Colonies
(42700 - in female colonies;
18600 — in Juvenile Colonies (1000 girls).
229000 waited for trial — in Pre-Trial Detention Centers.
Number of TB-infected prisoners 86000
Number of HIV-injected prisoners 21576
The early released prisoners (for 8 months of 2001): 56071 adults, 5597
– from Juvenile Colonies.
Federal Budget is supposed to provide 20rubles and 10 kopeks per day for
nutrition of each prisoner in a correctional institution but in reality sum is
no more then 15-17 rubles.
