Some general information on females institutions in Russia is given below:
Total number of institutions: 32. Two of these are of strict regime and other 30 –
general regime. There is one closed prison where those who violates the discipline are
sent to. It has two separate blocks: one for those transferred from general regime
colonies, another one is for those transferred from strict regime.
Such number of institutions is not sufficient to ensure that, as it is provided by law,
all the prisoners were placed in the colonies near their homes. Especially, it concerns
the girls under 18. There are only three institutions around Russia to house them.
